President-Elect of the United States of America

Washington, DC

Mr. President-Elect,

On behalf of the Rwandan political opposition platform composed of political organisations Amahoro PC, FDU – Inkingi, PS –Imberakuri and Rwanda National Congress‐RNC,I would like to convey to you our congratulations on your election as next President of a great nation, the United States of America.

Please, accept our best wishes for every success in discharging the important duties that are attached to your Office.  We are confident that the trust placed in you by the citizens of the United States of America is well deserved and will inspire you to promote the unity of your country, leading it on the path of prosperity.

We hope that your coming into office will generate more interest and commitment to working with dynamic and democratic forces trying against all odds to end dictatorship and impunity that are the roots causes of conflicts and wars that have caused millions of deaths in the Great Lakes region of Africa. It is quite shocking that the Rwandan regime, which receives a lot of aid from the US has become the epicentre of regional destabilisation.

We are counting on US leadership in ending the complacent attitude of the international community on appalling violations of human rights, including extraordinary renditions of critics from abroad, by the Rwandan regime.  As political analysts have commented “the complacent attitude has incrementally, step by step, contributed to a situation that may well be irreversible and that contains seeds for massive new violence in the medium or long run”.

Our opposition political platform is sincerely look forward to working with your government to end impunity and install democracy which alone can unlock the economic potential of this region, bring durable peace and stability to the Great Lakes region.

Please accept, Mr. President-Elect, the assurances of my highest consideration.
