The conviction of Ms. Victoire Ingabire, FDU-INKINGI’s Chair, to 15 years in prison, far from being an isolated case, is a strong signal that the RPF regime has sent to the whole democratic opposition. Indeed, the current charges against Ms. Ingabire are somehow the same as those uttered against other opposition leaders convicted by Rwandan courts, namely: Deo Mushayidi, Chairman of PDP- IMANZI and Bernard Ntaganda, President of PS- IMBERAKURI. Ms. Ingabire atones for “the sins” of any democratic opposition.

However, during the hearings, Ms. Victoire Ingabire proved beyond any reasonable doubt, that the charges preferred against her were neither substantiated by any credible evidence nor any verifiable fact; a strong indication for a purely political trial.

Rwanda : Political prisoner, Victoire Ingabire will forever embody our democratic struggle – Statement

Brussels, 13 December 2013

Dear compatriots, dear friends of Rwanda, all of you who love peace, freedom and democracy,

The verdict has been rendered and it is devastating. Indeed, our party Chair, Ms. Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, has just unjustly been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The verdict of the Supreme Court extended the first judgement of the High Court dated 30 October 2012.

Our first words go to our party Chair, Ms. Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza to whom we express our unwavering support and promise to continue the fight she initiated until the total conquest of our rights and freedoms and the total liberation of the Rwandan people from the yoke of dictatorship under which it has been languishing for nearly two decades.

Our words also go to the family of the political prisoner, which has consented to so many sacrifices in the interests of the Rwandan people and which today is deprived of a mother or a wife.

Rwanda : The RPF regime determined to decapitate the political opposition

The Rwandan Supreme Court’s ruling on the appeal of the imprisoned opposition leader Ms. Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza is expected this Friday 13 December 2013.

Ms. Ingabire, the Chairperson of Rwanda’s FDU-Inkingi Party, was arrested three years ago, in October 2010, after attempting to run for president against sitting President Paul Kagame. The fate of Ms. Ingabire was clear from the day she arrived in Rwanda on 16 January 2010. In an interview with the Ugandan newspaper, The Daily Monitor, President Kagame declared that “this woman [Ingabire] will certainly be where she belongs”, implying that Ms. Ingabire deserved to be in prison.
